The Bosnian Pyramid
Is it real or simply the figment of discoverer, Semir Osmanagich’s, overblown imagination? The Bosnian Pyramid, the world’s largest, was discovered in 2005 by Semir Osmanagich in the town of Visoko in the then war-torn and still impoverished country of Bosnia. Skeptics cried foul but, Semir Osmanagich, a Bosnian himself, who has invested some 25 years of his life in the study of pyramids and made it his life’s passion, persisted. And this is what he has found in his quest for knowledge.
To begin with, there are pyramids all over the world, not only in Egypt and Mexico but on all the continents. There are pyramids in China, Indonesia and Cambodia. There are pyramids in Iraq as well as in Egypt. They are found in Africa in the Sudan and in the Canary Islands and in Mauritius. The pyramids in Mexico are well known but less so are the pyramids in Honduras, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Peru. And in the United States the phenomenon known as mounds are in fact pyramids. There are 200 in the State of Illinois alone. These are called the Cahokian mounds, named after an Indian tribe living in the area 300 years ago, but that same tribe was not sophisticated enough to have built them. The largest pyramid on that site has a surface area that is larger than the Great Pyramid of Egypt. For years it was thought there were no pyramids in Europe but they exist in France, Spain and Italy, on the island of Sicily as well as in Bosnia. What makes the Bosnian find so spectacular is that it is the largest pyramid yet discovered.
The Bosnian Pyramid is not one but three main pyramids and two others. The three central pyramids he has named the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon and the Dragon Pyramid. When one draws a line connecting the three, it forms a perfect equilateral triangle. The largest - the Pyramid of the Sun - stands at 220 meters high while the Cheops Pyramid at the Giza plateau in Egypt is only 147 meters tall. Even the Bosnian Moon Pyramid is 190 meters tall, taller than the world famous Cheops Pyramid.
He named the third pyramid the Dragon Pyramid because of the ancient association of the dragon with knowledge and power. The other two he named the Pyramid of Love and the Mother Earth Pyramid, an elongated shape, and these two form geometric relationships with the other three. He chose those two names because he sees the civilization of that time in history as having more respect for the planet we share with it.
All of the pyramids at Visoko are covered with soil and trees lending credence to the skeptics’ argument that they are only mountains. However, if you study the shapes of these ‘mere mountains’ they are four sided, the sides being triangular as well as of uniform size, and the base square, thus satisfying one of the definitions of a pyramid. Speaking for myself, I have never seen such regularly shaped mountains in nature. In addition, they are each oriented toward the four cardinal directions, north, south, east and west satisfying another one of the definitions of a pyramid.
Pyramids in different parts of the world are made of different substances. In Egypt, limestone and granite were used. In Visoko concrete slabs, some a meter thick, were the building blocks. These concrete slabs were then placed on top of sandstone and clay. The concrete used in the Bosnian pyramids is a concrete that has lasted thousands of years, something no concrete made today could ever do. Concrete made today last only 50-100 years.
The concrete used has been analyzed at the Polytechnic Institute of Turin in Italy and at the University of Sarajevo and found to be five times stronger than any made today.
There are clearly defined terraces on the Pyramid Moon; again, not a naturally occurring phenomenon.
And, in addition, there are inner passageways, another essential part of a pyramid. And finally the pyramids are connected to one another by a system of underground tunnels.
Given the above facts about the Bosnian Pyramid(s), it is unlikely that they are simply mountains. Those that argue that the tunnels were added to what is a mountain, or are simply part of a mining complex but that does not explain the orientation or the building material. Nor does it explain why the tunnels were made and why they were filled in centuries later and by whom.
Osmanagich has had the soil covering the pyramids tested using the radio carbon dating technique at the University of Upsala in Sweden and Kiel University in Germany and discovered that it was 12,000 years old, which makes the Pyramid complex even older. Given that the official age of the Egyptian Pyramid Complex at Giza is 4000 years and the official age of the Mexican Pyramids at Teotihuacan is listed as being 2200 years old, this finding turns official history on its head. It is interesting to note that the three pyramids at Teotihuacan, the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the Pyramid of Quetzacoatl also form an equilateral triangle among themselves, which is in itself another interesting correspondence with the pyramids at Visoko.
One of the central misunderstandings about pyramids in general is that they were used as burial tombs for the pharaohs or a similar ruling class wherever you find pyramids. But, as Osmanagich points out no such tombs or remains have ever been found in the pyramids of Egypt. Tomb raiders are generally used as the excuse for no such findings. But would tomb raiders have cleaned out every tomb site? They have not even done so in such obvious tombs as those in the Valley of the Kings where tombs have been raided for centuries and are still clearly burial sites that hold tombs, sarcophagae, bones, remains of mummies, and royal furniture and objects placed in the tomb for use in the afterlife.
And that brings us to the question as to what were the function of pyramids. Without continued archeological excavation and scientific analysis, we can only guess at the function of the pyramids. Even if the scientific community relents and conducts such experimentation, we need to let go of our own 21st century bias and try to understand that those people at that time thought and acted differently.
The Bosnian Pyramid seems to suffer from a particular loathing of the academic community. President of the European Association of Archeology, Professor Anthony Hardy, called the claim that Bosnia had pyramids “wacky” and “absurd”. Penn State Professor Garrett Fagan thought it was a joke and that no one should be allowed to destroy “genuine sites in pursuit of these delusions”. Archeologists who had never visited the site decided that the tunnels indicated that it was a coal mining facility.
Osmanagich conjectured at one point that the Bosnian Pyramid might have been constructed by the Illyrian inhabitants of the Balkans in 12,000 B.C. But Bill Curtis Runnels, an expert in pre-historic Greece and the Balkans said that the Balkans were under glaciers from 27,000 to 12,000 years ago and that the only inhabitants were Paleolithic hunters who had open air sites only and simple stone tools, the Flintstones, in short.
So stringent is the censure that the leading archeologist on the site, Dr. Sara Acconi from Italy was told that if she went and worked at Visoko she would never work in mainstream academia.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Pyramid of the Sun is the energy beam emerging from the top it. What is even more peculiar is that the beam of energy, measured at 28 kilohertz at the top of the pyramid, gains in intensity the farther it gets from the source rather than lessening. This, of course, defies the very rules of physics.
It would also seem to indicate that the pyramid is a receiver rather than a transmitter of that energy beam.
Energy waves that are emitted from natural hills move in a horizontal direction while the energy beam from the Pyramid goes vertically up into the air. The energy wave emitted is in the range of ultra sound waves. Animals hear ultra-sound; we do not. Polycontrast Interference Photography was the imaging system used to photograph these energy waves.
Workers at the site come from all over the world and the group is comprised of interested and willing amateur volunteers rather than the academic community which continues to scorn the very idea that there are even pyramids in Visoko.
Reports from these various individuals attest to the peaceful and healthy feeling that they experience while in the tunnels of the Pyramid complex. Rather than having stale air full of toxic substances the tunnels are replenished with fresh clean air. But even more interesting is that people who have spent time in them working claim that they feel better after being in them including experiencing relief from chronic health problems.
This can be explained by the fact that the oxygen level in the tunnels is 20%, a very high ratio. The tunnels are also built at a slight incline so that there is no standing water to be found in them at all. Again this indicates that the people building them had developed a very advanced level of engineering.
And yet another intriguing aspect to the Pyramid of the Sun in Visoko is that despite being in a cold continental climate, Mediterranean foliage grows on top of it. The reason for this is that the tunnels inside prevent the mountainside from becoming too cold in the winter months and in effect, provide a micro-climate so that such plants can flourish there.
As with the pyramids of Cuzco, Peru, the Pyramids in Bosnia are constructed of different sized stones. The purpose of this is to make the structure more stable.
There is also a causeway on the Pyramid of the Sun. In the Valley of the Pyramids itself you can find obelisks as well as ancient burial grounds.
Inside the pyramid researchers have found ancient artifacts with a form of ancient writing or a symbolic system on them. These symbols or words correlate with other forms of ancient written communication including Hungarian runic writing, the writing of the Tardos-Vinca culture, and that of the Taszak plateau. One of the easily recognizable symbols is the swastika, the ancient symbol of the sun.
Given the wealth of archeological material discovered there, why does the academic community persist in refusing to acknowledge these new findings or the information they impart?
Despite the archeological site being manned largely at this point by volunteers, the techniques used to analyze the findings are state of the art. They include seismic analysis, thermal screening, satellite photography, radar and geo-radar as well as the systematic analysis of archeology. And the analyses provided verify rather than undermine the thinking of Semir Osmanagich.
Dr. Osmanagich emphasizes that the builders of these pyramids were a sophisticated civilization. The orientation of the north side Sun Pyramid in Visoko is 0 degrees, 0 minutes, 12 seconds to magnetic north, a stunningly accurate placement. And though the scientific exactness of the orientation of the Great Pyramid at the Giza Plateau is also incredibly accurate, it is not quite as accurate as the one in Bosnia.
It is undeniable that the builders were a people with an advanced knowledge of mathematics, astronomy, and sacred geometry. Their engineering skills surpass those of our own century. At the same time, their use of technology was not equivalent to our own. They did not use cameras and computers and high speed vehicles so far as we know.
It would seem that their technology served another purpose. As Osmanagich sees it, their civilization was more in touch with the forces around them and did not attempt to dominate the natural world as much as it did work within it. Much is written about ancient civilizations and the worship of the sun but it would seem to me that people who had such a sophisticated working knowledge of the sky above would not have worshiped it as such. They may have worshiped the intelligence behind it.
There has been an increase of interest in the Bosnian sites and in the summer of 2013, 1200 volunteers spend the summer there, many of them with backgrounds in archeology and science and other with backgrounds in cultural heritage. They came from 52 countries and 6 continents. The fact that experts are getting involved ads to the knowledge base as well as to the reputation of the Bosnian sites. In addition to the Valley of the Pyramids, there is the tumulus found in the village of Vratnia. A tumulus is a covered mound on a pre-historic burial site.
Another astounding discovery was made in 2012 in the form of a fossilized leaf on the Pyramid of the Sun that is 25,000 years old. This, of course, pushes the possible age of the pyramid site back even further.
And then there is the mystery of the Bosnian Stone Spheres, perfectly round. The first stone sphere was discovered in Costa Rica in the 1930s and now they have been found in the Philippines, Western France and Bulgaria. What might have been their function is anyone’s guess. Were they the bowling balls of the Gods, or designed with something more serious in mind?
What is certain is that this is not a minor archeological find. It is something unique with tremendous implications for the future study of the distant past. Having originally intended to write a ‘balanced’ piece on the subject, I have to admit that, given the information I discovered, that was impossible. So now you know my take on the subject of the Bosnian Pyramid.
